結膜炎可與感染或過敏有關，可能出現眼紅、痕癢、流眼水或分泌物。但眼紅亦有其他原因，不能只憑照片確診。Conjunctivitis can be associated with infection or allergy and may cause redness, itching, watering or discharge. Red eyes also have other causes; a photograph alone cannot establish the diagnosis.

可記下單眼或雙眼受影響、開始時間及分泌物情況，並告知是否佩戴隱形眼鏡。紅眼伴眼痛、畏光或視力改變，應立即接受醫療評估；佩戴隱形眼鏡期間出現紅眼亦應盡快求醫，暫停佩戴。避免共用毛巾及自行使用別人的眼藥水。Note whether one or both eyes are affected, the onset and any discharge, and mention contact-lens use. Redness with eye pain, light sensitivity or vision changes needs immediate medical assessment. A red eye in a contact-lens wearer also needs urgent assessment; stop wearing the lenses. Avoid sharing towels or using another person’s eye drops.
